Early on September 6, I looked at the transcription app's package and thought the size was ridiculous. The app appeared to do something simple: take a recording and turn it into text. Yet the download was about 2 GB. I told Codex I couldn't expect people to download that much just to try it.
The model had been bundled with the program. My computer already had the necessary files, and I had allowed that familiar setup to shape the package.
I asked for a check on first use. Reuse the model if it was already present; download it if it wasn't. Explain what the file was, why it was needed and how long the download might take.
Then I went back to the main window. A new user should immediately see where to put a recording. Once it was loaded, the relevant settings and start button could follow. When the transcript was ready, the text needed the space.
I spent that day thinking about someone else's first minute with the app. Getting it to run on my computer had left quite a few details still to consider.
